Some 300 Palestinian refugees here expressed their "disappointment" Sunday with the final statement of the Arab summit in Cairo.
"The results of the summit are disappointing. They do not match the sacrifices by the Palestinian people during the latest uprising, or the aspirations of the Arab people," said Mwaataz Maaruf, an official of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).
The DFLP, based in Damascus and led by Nayef Hawatmeh, is one of the three principal components of the Palestinian Liberation Organization along with the similarly radical Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Yasser Arafat's dominant mainstream Fateh.
"We want to continue the Intifada (uprising) until the creation of a Palestinian state over all the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with east Jerusalem as its capital, where Israel must withdraw in accordance with UN resolution 242," Maarouf told the refugees at Camp Chatila, south of Beirut.
UN Resolution 242 calls for Israel to withdraw from the lands it occupied after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
The refugees carried Palestinian and Lebanese flags through the camp, and chanted slogans against the resolutions adopted at the two-day meeting of Arab leaders and against Israel.
The summit gave moral and financial support for the Palestinians but stopped short of ordering a boycott of Israel -- BEIRUT (AFP)
