Comdex 2000 opened at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds Tuesday, featuring a Palestinian pavallion among more than 400 exhibitors in the areas of Internet, computer hardware, software and peripherals, and related service providers, as well as three full days of programs, lectures, and seminars, The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.

It is also the first trade show ever to be streamed live and in 3D over the Internet, using the technology of Jerusalem-based Morfit, the Israeli paper added.

According to the organizers, some 15,000 visitors thronged to the trade show on the first day, with more than 35,000 expected to attend the event by the time it winds up on Thursday night, the daily reported.

In addition, leading multinational corporations - such as Microsoft, Compaq, and HP - have chosen Comdex Israel as the forum to announce worldwide e-commerce initiatives.

Ibrahim Barham, director of the Palestinian Technology Association (PITA) was quoted by the daily as saying "hundreds of visitors an hour are coming to the Palestinian Pavilion. Many Israelis are asking questions and showing a great deal of interest in the Palestinian technology sector." - Albawaba.com
