A Palestinian fighter of the Al-Qassam brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, died early on Sunday morning of wounds he sustained earlier Saturday. Mohammad Yousef Hammouda, 25, was pronounced dead after having been hit, along with three other fighters, with an Israeli missile in northern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli attack on Saturday brought a two-week lull in violence to an end. Israel has so far shunned any ceaseire offer by Palestinian groups in Gaza Strip including that of the ruling Hamas.
On its part, the Islamic Jihad spokesman said Sunday Israel proved by its atrocities that it is not after peace and stability in the region. Speaking to Iran's Alalam TV, Davoud Shahab said: "The Zionist regime's repeated crimes against the Palestinian people indicate that all options are doomed to failure except for resistance and jihad against the occupying regime."
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad official said Israelis continue their crimes and atrocious policies against the Palestinian people. "The Israeli occupying regime by its barbarian acts caused all efforts for setting a ceasefire to fail, so it should be held responsible for the crimes and escalation of violence in the region," Shahab added.
