Palestine managed to withstand strong opposition from Iraq yesterday, in their third match of the Asian Football Confederation Cup Tournament’s qualifying rounds, at Al Ain’s Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium last night (Wednesday).
The match, which provided several tense moments, ultimately saw the two teams drawing level at two goals each. The Iraqi team got off to a promising start picking up from where they left off, by seeking to repeat their 3-nil victory against the Palestinians in Amman two weeks ago. Hawar M. Taher, of the Iraqi team, scored a brilliant goal to win the Most Valuable Player award from LG Electronics.
As the spectators watched in eager anticipation, both teams renewed their attempts to qualify for next year’s Asian Football Confederation Cup Tournament. The Iraqi team is being sponsored by global and regional digital leader LG Electronics as part of its efforts to promote social development in Iraq.
Hamad Malik, Director marketing and corporate communications, LG Electronics MEA, said he hoped that the company’s sponsorship of the Iraqi team would encourage many more international players to promote sports and social development activities in the country. “LG Electronics believes in nurturing the local communities it works in to develop a better tomorrow for future generations,” he pointed out. “Our sponsorship of the Iraqi team is a step towards this direction.”
Both teams competed within the Group E qualifying rounds of the tournament. The group also includes the teams of China and Singapore.
Strengthening its role as a supporter of sports, LG extended its sponsorship for the Iraqi team members throughout their preparations for the games. LG provided the Iraqi team with financial support, equipment, training facilities and guidance throughout their quest for advancement.
The award is granted by AFC (Asian Football Confederation) at every Asian Football Confederation Cup Tournament to players who demonstrate exceptional skills and sportsmanship throughout their gaming performance. This year, LG awarded the winning player with a LG Chocolate Mobile Phone, one of its most innovative products in the market.
