More than 1000 people have been killed in Iraq last month, the highest number in years, the UN said Thursday.
1,057 people were killed in July, with Baghdad, at 238, the single worst area affected.
The July death toll was 761, the UN said.
The Associated Press reported a July death toll of at least 730 people, a substantially smaller number although one explained by the fact hospital officials and local police often provide different figures of those killed.
