Oracle Academy trains teachers under major education initiative in Egypt
Project to train more than 5000 students in 2008
Oracle took another step forward in its initiative to impart high-quality IT training to teachers and students in Egypt when it welcomed 12 teachers to an intensive professional development program in Cairo. The program, a continuation of the partnership between Oracle, the Egyptian Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication, is designed to expand the presence of the Oracle Academy throughout Egypt. The Oracle Academy, one of three education initiatives that Oracle sponsors, enables education institutions globally to provide their students with the skills and experience needed for 21st century careers.
The 12 teachers are now prepared to train an additional 250 Egyptian teachers on the Oracle Academy’s Database Design and Programming with SQL curriculum. Once trained, these teachers will introduce the curriculum to over 5,000 new students across Egypt. The curriculum provides students with fundamental technology and business skills required in technology and business careers.

The teacher-training event is testament to Oracle’s efforts to support Egypt’s growing IT community. The Oracle Academy is a key component of the Egyptian Education Initiative, a joint project between the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information Technology and Communication and Oracle. Last year, Oracle trained over 200 teachers and reached 6700 students in the first phase of the partnership.
“The Oracle Academy’s approach to training is geared toward instructor and student success. Participants exit the training with a level of understanding that is rarely acquired at teacher professional development events,” he added.
