The escalation between Israel and Hezbollah started when the Iranian-backed group fired missiles and rockets targeting northern Israel following the joint attack by Washington and Tel Aviv that resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and high-ranking officials in the Islamic Republic on Feb. 28.

Israel, in response, launched massive attacks targeting Beirut's southern suburb, the stronghold of the Lebanese movement, Hezbollah.

However, security sources told Lebanon 24 that the target of the Israeli raid at dawn on the Comfort Hotel in Hazmieh was an Iranian diplomat.
