A woman was killed and a consulate building set on fire as upto 8,000 Indonesian expatriate workers protested in Saudi Arabia, Al Jazeera reported.
A crowd amassed outside the Indonesian consulate building in Jeddah on Sunday, as workers tried to formalise their work arrangements before a Saudi crackdown on illegal employees.
"Some of them lit a fire near the walls of the consulate seeking to enter by force, but leading to the death of a woman," a source told AFP.
Members of the crowd had begun throwing stones and rocks at the building, before the fire started.
The violence was caught on video and follows a stampede at the consulate on Saturday, which left three women seriously injured and dozens more suffering minor injuries.
About 180,000 illegal foreign workers have left Saudi Arabia since April 1 under an amnesty that allows them to try to sort out their papers or leave without paying a penalty, bringing the total number of expatriate workers who have left the kingdom this year to 380,000.
The Kingdom launched a crackdown on illegal workers at the start of the year, in a bid to bring down domestic unemployment, although muich of the migrant workforce are employed in unskilled low paying jobs which aren't traditionally taken up by Saudis.
