ALBAWABA- Oman came under drone attack early Sunday, a day after Tehran launched coordinated missile and drone attacks on U.S. military facilities across several Gulf states, significantly escalating regional tensions.
Omani state media reported that two drones hit the Duqm commercial port, injuring one worker, while additional strikes were reported near Musandam port, with unconfirmed accounts of further injuries.
Omani Foreign Ministry spokesman Lutfi al-Falasi condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation” of the Sultanate’s neutrality and sovereignty, warning that such actions risk undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts. Oman had recently played a mediating role in indirect U.S.–Iran talks.
The strikes on Oman followed a broader wave of Iranian attacks targeting U.S. facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, in retaliation for the joint U.S.–Israeli operation that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of senior officials yesterday.
The UAE reported interceptions of missiles and drones aimed at strategic sites including Al Dhafra Air Base, while Bahrain confirmed strikes near the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama. Qatar said Al Udeid Air Base was targeted, with several injuries reported, and Kuwait confirmed hits near Ali Al Salem Air Base.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps described the campaign as part of “Operation True Promise 4,” claiming multiple successful strikes against U.S. positions in the region.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned of continued force if American interests are threatened, as the United Nations Security Council convened an emergency session amid growing fears of a broader regional conflict and potential disruption to global energy markets.
