European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson, who are currently meeting Israeli and Palestinian officials in Ramallah and Jerusalem, will not visit Egypt, a European official said Sunday.
Both EU officials were scheduled to hold talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo on Monday.
The official told the Kuwait news agency (KUNA) that “it is not known whether the visit of Persson and Solana was completely cancelled or was only postponed.”
“In the meantime, no preparations for the Cairo visit have been made,” he told KUNA.
Persson and Solana met on Sunday with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Ramallah.
On Monday, they will meet Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres in a bid to implement a ceasefire declared by the Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the recommendations of the Mitchell report – Albawaba.com
