ALBAWABA - A massive blast was reported at an oil refinery in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, on Wednesday.

The Civil Defense Directorate in Erbil Governorate announced that its teams have completely extinguished a fire that broke out at an oil refinery located on the Kuweir road, confirming that the incident resulted in no casualties, Kurdistan24 reported Wednesday.

In a press statement to the media, the spokesperson for the Erbil Civil Defense Directorate, Shakhwan Saeed, said: "We received a report of a fire breaking out at a refinery on the Kuweir road. Six firefighting teams immediately went to the site and were able to control and completely extinguish the fire in less than half an hour."

He further mentioned, "The burning tank did not contain large quantities of fuel or flammable materials such as gasoline, but rather contained tar (asphalt), which helped prevent the fire from spreading."

A video was posted on X showing flames and black smoke rising into the sky from an oil refinery.

Another clip was shared on social media showing first responders and firefighters trying to combat the fire at the oil refinery in Kurdistan.
