The international community recognizes the Republic of Cyprus and has condemned the unilateral declaration of the puppet regime in the Turkish-occupied part of the island, Nicosia Mayor Michalakis Zambelas told a conference of the Mayors of the capital cities of the European Union (EU) candidate countries, according to Cyprus News Agency.
Zambelas was answering to a statement made by Ankara's Deputy Mayor Gazi Sahin who had told participating delegates he did not recognize the Republic of Cyprus and Nicosia’s Mayor.
Sahin also did not sign a joint declaration of the conference to be sent to the EU, the news agency added. (Albawaba.com)
