ALBAWABA- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially announced the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hashem Safieddine.

Following this development, Netanyahu convened an urgent security consultation with key ministers. According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, the meeting addressed escalating regional tensions and security challenges.

Israeli officials have expressed confidence in their ability to harm Iran, though coordination with Washington is deemed necessary due to potential retaliatory measures from Tehran.

Meanwhile, Lebanese health officials have reported 36 martyrs and 150 injured within the past 24 hours as a result of continued Israeli airstrikes.

Since the start of the conflict, the total death toll in Lebanon has reached 2,119, with 10,019 injured.

Hashem Safieddine is a senior leader within Hezbollah. He serves as the head of the Executive Council, which manages Hezbollah's social, economic, and political activities.

He succeeded Hassan Nasrallah as Secretary-General of Hezbollah following Nasrallah’s assassination and is now considered one of the key figures in the group’s leadership.

Safieddine, a cousin of the late Nasrallah, holds significant authority within Hezbollah, particularly in managing the organization's strategic and operational decisions. His close familial and ideological ties to Nasrallah have strengthened his influence and leadership position.

Throughout his career, Safieddine has played a significant role in shaping Hezbollah's policies and its broader strategies, particularly in the context of its relations with Iran, its principal backer.

In 2017, the U.S. Department of State sanctioned him, citing his involvement in supporting Hezbollah’s regional and international operations.

His importance in Hezbollah also extends to his influence over its regional activities, including its involvement in Syria during the civil war and its military strategies against Israel.
