National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) successfully concluded the 2nd session of its specially designed summer training program for youth Azraq recently.
The training program which was held in cooperation with Metal Recycling Company (MRC) and other conversional industries saw lectures on environmental awareness and the importance of the recycling of waste. The Al-Azraq students were also taken on a field visit, where they got a chance to tour the plastic and metal cutting factory, to better understand the exact nature of the waste recycling process.
“NBK and MRC along with conversional industries have got into this kind of a partnership for the first time, which is simultaneous to NBK’s launch of its national environmental campaign titled' Think Twice ‘. The aim of organizing such campaigns is create environment awareness amongst all strata of the society,” said Abdulla Sabeeh Buftain, Public Relations Officer and the Supervisor of the Program, NBK.
On the choice of partnering with MRC, Buftain said, “Our choice of MRC is primarily due to the role the Company has been playing in the field of waste recycling in Kuwait and the GCC region.”
NBK and MRC realize that working with the youth will help build awareness on the environmental challenges being faced by the country today. “This cooperation reflects the belief of both the institutions in the importance of providing healthy and safe environment,” said Buftain.
Meanwhile, Hassan Shaker Aboul Hassan Public Relations Officer, MRC, praised the cooperation rendered by NBK for organizing this campaign.
MRC on its part arranged lectures, presentations and organized dialogues with students. A number of topics were discussed including: the nature of the recycling process, separation of materials and re-using of materials in manufacturing. The discussions were held in context with the international standards to preserve the environment.
It is worthy to note that MRC was recently awarded the ISO 140001 Certificate for Management of Environmental Systems.
NBK’s summer training program for Al-Azraq account holders comes in line with the Bank’s corporate social responsibility. NBK lays great emphasis towards the youth of the country and has been successfully running this campaign for the past six years. The participation of the youth has encouraged NBK to organize interesting summer internship courses to help build awareness on the environmental issues that the country is currently facing.
