Hizbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah warned on Tuesday that the country was doomed if campaigns continued to be based on money and sectarian incitement, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
"Instead of electoral competition being based on credibility or an electoral platform, it's based on money and sectarian provocation," Nasrallah told an audience of 5,000 in Sfeir area.
"Competition based on money is insulting and degrading for people. There are people selling their votes for $100, and those planning to sell votes, vote late because the rate gets higher. I say to those, you are selling your country," Nasrallah said.
The Hizbollah leader assured party supporters that they would not get "one cent" for their votes because it is considered bribery and bribery is "haram [religiously prohibited] in our belief."
Nasrallah said the party would consider receiving a ministerial post if its purpose was to help develop the country.
"I'm not interested in power I want to serve my people. Hizbollah is ready to accept any post that will serve the country even if we have to die for it," he said - Albawaba.com
