nasair acquires five aircraft and becomes the launch customer of the E-190 in Saudi Arabia

nasair, of Saudi Arabia, has concluded a deal to acquire five EMBRAER 190, with options for another five. The contract also includes purchase rights for 12 aircraft of the same model. The value of the contract, at list price, is US$ 348 M, as of June 2007, and could reach US$ 522 M, if all options are confirmed.

nasair - launched in February 2007 as Saudi Arabia first budget carrier ever - intends to deploy the aircraft on its growing domestic operations which has recently stretched to cover 21 destinations with 365 weekly flights.

“We have a very aggressive expansion plan and we need the right aircraft to achieve it, said Taher Agueel, President of NAS.

The Embraer fleet will be based at King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh. The EMBRAER 190 will be configured in a comfortable single class layout seating up to 114 passengers.
