An Egyptian court on Monday set April 4 for the first session of the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons for corruption, a judicial source has said.

Mubarak and his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, were accused of intentionally squandering public funds allocated for presidential palaces and fabricating official documents, the source told The Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.

In January, a cassation court approved an appeal lodged by defense lawyers against previous jail terms delivered against them, going on to order their release.

The trio is accused of using public funds to build, upgrade and furnish their personal property.

Mubarak was ousted by a 2011 popular uprising following three decades in power.
