Fereydoun Moshiri, considered one of the masters of contemporary Iranian poetry, has died of cancer at age 74, associates said Tuesday.
Moshiri, the author of modern Iranian classics such as "Thirst for Storm," was extremely popular in intellectual and youth circles and was a vocal opponent of the former imperial regime of the shah.
But he was largely silent in the first years of the Islamic revolution, which toppled the regime in 1979, returning only lately to Iran's literary scene after the 1997 election of President Mohammad Khatami.
He was regularly invited in recent years to participate in literary conferences and seminars by the culture ministry - TEHRAN (AFP)
