The 6th congress of Morocco's ruling USFP party elected at its meeting Sunday in Casablanca a 185- strong central committee, Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported.
USFP also resolved to hold its congress every other year, in keeping with a recommendation from Socialist International (SI), of which it is a member, it added.
The central committee would meet later to elect 21 members into the politburo as well as a secretary general.
All influential leaders of the party were re-elected, notably Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi and the current Speaker of Parliament Abdelouahed Radi, said the agency.
Following a decision by the congress to allocate a minimum of 20 percent of positions to women, 37 women were elected into the central committee.
The party also recommended that government allocate women 20 percent of positions at the leadership of the administration.
In a general declaration adopted at the end of the proceedings, delegates affirmed that "the forces of reform now have a good opportunity to put democracy on an irreversible track,” – Albawaba.com
