Morocco’s communication minister and government spokesman, Nabil Benabdellah, denied Monday news report by a Moroccan newspaper that the al Hoceima region’s Wali (governor) and Gendarmerie commander were sacked for “poor management of the rescue and assistance operations” following last week’s quake in the region.
The minister told MAP the Wali has undertaken “a deep and efficient action,” which should be praised.
The quake killed at least 572 people, injured over 400 others and left thousands of others homeless.
