ALBAWABA - On Monday and Tuesday, Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced the dismantling of a four-member ISIS cell that operated in several Moroccan cities, including Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal, and Inezgane.

According to preliminary findings, the network has been coordinating with leaders of this organization in the Sahel-Saharan region to facilitate extremist recruitment in this area.

During searches of the four suspects' homes, security services seized various electronic devices, money, and bladed weapons in the form of large sabers, as well as rifles.

The suspects were taken into custody as part of an investigation to determine their ties to foreign terrorist organizations and uncover all potential terrorist plans and activities.

The operation is part of Morocco's counterterrorism strategy, which aims to address the growing threat posed by ISIS and terrorist organizations. Morocco has long advocated for a shared responsibility to address security threats in the Sahel.

Last July, the North African country urged the African Union Peace and Security Council to prioritize a coordinated and viable regional approach to combating the growing threats of terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel region.

Morocco called for a unified, comprehensive approach to combating terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel, emphasizing the critical need for regional cooperation and international support in addressing the region's challenges.
