Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Wednesday appointed Driss Jettou Prime Minister. The appointment came after the legislative elections of September 27.
Jettou, who is not member to any political party, replaces Abderrahmane Youssoufi, First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP). USFP topped the legislative poll with 50 seats in the future 325-seat House of Representatives.
According to MAP, Jettou has been serving since September 2000 as interior minister. He is former finance minister, trade, industry and handicraft minister, and former Chief-Executive officer of the Phosphates Office (Office Cherifien des Phosphates).
Western diplomats and the business community welcomed the king's move and described Jettou as "the right man in the right place."
"This is good news for the business community and foreign investors... Jettou, who has no political agenda, is the man who will take courageous decisions to boost economic and social reforms," a European diplomat told Reuters. (Albawaba.com)
