More than 1,700 Hearths in Algeria Posing a Threat for Forests

The General Directorate of Forests in Algeria recorded 1,731 hearths since the beginning of the campaign for the prevention of forest fires in June. These hearths were found in 23,118 ha area, of which 12,733 ha is forests. Info Soir reports that the increase seen in the number of hearths indicates an average of new 22 hearths per day. According to the General Directorate of Forests, only from 13 to 19 August, 253 new hearths were recorded. The General Directorate of Forests asked the public to be more precautious and sensitive about the prevention of forest fires.
