Despite concerns about the regulatory framework, the Middle East's telecommunications sector is set to pass through an Internet-driven "gold rush" in the next five years, the Gulf News reported quoting Andersen Consulting's report.

About 50 percent of homes in the region will have Internet connections by 2005, the survey found, the paper said, adding that the current figure is about two percent. Andersen Consulting, to be renamed Accenture on January 1, has just issued "Middle East and Northern Africa Telecommunications 2005: Ready for the Gold Rush", covering 10 countries -- Albawaba.com
