Meshaal in Cairo for talks on reconciliation, deal with israel

Khaled Meshaal, the political chief of Hamas, on Sunday held talks in Cairo amid reports of growing efforts to seal a prisoner exchange deal with israel. Meshaal was expected to meet Omar Suleiman, the Egyptian intelligence chief.

 

The Damascus-based leader was also expected to discuss internal Palestinian reconciliation with Fatah. "The visit is aimed to overcome snags impeding progress in the Palestinian national dialogue," Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said on Saturday. According to him, talks will begin on Sunday. Abu Zuhri said that the delegation's visit primarily focuses on Palestinian dialogue and means of overcoming obstacles that surfaced during the past rounds of dialogue."
