Tens of thousands of Egyptians, both defenders of the new political regime and supporters of deposed President Morsi, are holding mass demonstrations in the streets of Cairo this evening.

Anti-Morsi protesters have converged on Tahrir Square.

Meanwhile the former President's supporters have gathered around a mosque in Cairo.

Security sources told the BBC that 11 people have so far been injured in the capital, a result of stone-throwing between the two opposing camps.

However the demonstrations have otherwise been peaceful.
