ALBAWABA - A French court sentenced 10 people over the cyber-bullying case of President Emmanuel Macron's wife, Brigitte Macron, AFP reported Monday.

The court indicted the defendants of spreading false information about Brigitte Macron's gender and insinuations related to the age difference between her and her husband.

Presiding judge Thierry Donard described the claims of Brigitte's "alleged paedophilia" as "malicious, degrading and insulting".

AFP reported that eight people were given suspended terms of four to eight months, while another man was sentenced to six months in jail after he refused to attend trial.

"They and a tenth person were ordered to follow a course against hate speech online."

On the other hand, the Macron couple also filed a defamation lawsuit against US podcaster Candace Owens, who falsely claimed the spouse of the French president used to be a man and that he had undergone surgery.
