ALBAWABA-Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia is preparing a UN General Assembly resolution calling for Israel’s expulsion if it continues to violate international law concerning Palestine.
Speaking in the Malaysian Parliament on Monday, and as reported by the national news agency Bernama, Ibrahim stated that Malaysia has joined a “core group” of countries advocating for an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s obligations to allow UN agency operations.
Ibrahim explained that if the draft resolution is approved, it would secure a pathway for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to continue delivering vital aid to Palestinians across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. He also mentioned that discussions on the draft are ongoing, with plans to formally submit it to the General Assembly soon.
The resolution comes amid an escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where, since October 7, 2023, Israel has been accused of committing mass atrocities with U.S. backing.
According to recent reports, over 145,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, with a majority of casualties being children and women, while more than 10,000 individuals remain missing.
With extensive destruction, a growing famine has claimed the lives of dozens of children and elderly residents, placing Gaza among the worst global humanitarian disasters.
Despite a UN Security Council order to cease its operations and the ICJ’s directive to take immediate action to prevent genocide and improve Gaza’s dire conditions, Israel has continued its military actions, deepening the crisis.
