Major strike kicks off in Israel to push for hostage deal

ALBAWABA - A major strike has started across Israel a day after the bodies of six hostages were found in a tunnel in Gaza's Rafah city by the Israeli army.

Israel Hayom reported that Ben-Gurion Airport is closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to support the national strike.  

The leader of Israel's major Histadrut trade union announced yesterday: "Starting tomorrow at six in the morning, the entire Israeli economy will go on complete strike."

The Israeli army announced on Sunday the retrieval of the bodies of six hostages; Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Ori Danino. 

Massive protests led by families of hostages erupted nationwide in Israel to protest no deal between the Israeli government and Hamas leaders. Protesters called Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to make an agreement with Hamas to return hostages as war enters its 332th day. 

In Tel Aviv alone, 300,000 people joined the mass protest, calling for an immediate hostage deal as they feared more hostages would get killed, the Hostage Family Forum announced.

The Jerusalem Post reported that 13 protesters were arrested. On the other hand, Israeli officers detained 29 people following the illegal protest on the Ayalon Highway on Sunday night.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation:

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip, captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory. In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip.

The war in Gaza has left 40,738 Palestinians killed and more than 94,00o others injured, according to data released by the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.
