ALBAWABA - The leader of Israel's major Histadrut trade union issued an order for a "complete strike" on Monday in support of Israeli hostages in Gaza and pushed for an arrangement to achieve their release, AFP reported, after the bodies of six Israelis were found in Gaza.
“Starting tomorrow at six in the morning, the entire Israeli economy will go on complete strike,” Arnon bar David, Histadrut chairman said in a statement, adding “We must stop the abandonment of the hostages... I have come to the conclusion that only our intervention can shake those who need to be shaken.”
As part of the strike, all takeoffs and landings at Ben Gurion airport will be halted beginning at 8:00 am (0500 GMT), according to Bar David, who noted that a solution is not moving due to political concerns, which is “unacceptable.”
With the announcement that the Israeli military had retrieved the remains of six prisoners from a tunnel in Gaza earlier on Sunday, the relatives of those who were held captive were filled with fury and anguish, going to the streets in protest for the government’s lack of a serious faith in negotiating for a deal.
According to Al Jazeera, over 500,000 Israeli protesters flooded the streets of Tel-Aviv on Sunday’s night, in one of the most significant rallies against the government that took place in Israel since the beginning of the war on Gaza approximately eleven months ago.
"Now! Now!" yelled the demonstrators, as they urged the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to negotiate a ceasefire with the Palestinian party Hamas in order to return the remaining prisoners back from the Palestinian territory.
As of October 7, the Israeli military has been responsible for the killing of at least 40,738 Palestinians and the injury of 94,154 others throughout its aggression on Gaza strip.
