Libya has freed twenty-six Egyptian fishermen detained on suspicion of fishing illegally in Libyan waters, the BBC reported Saturday.

The men are the first to be released of a group of one-hundred and forty-nine who were arrested at the end of October when their boats were seized off the Libyan coast, according to the broadcast.

Their release has been agreed between the Egyptian and Libyan authorities who are still in negotiations over the remaining men, said the news service, adding that this is the latest in a series of incidents in which Libya has detained Egyptian fishermen -- Albawaba.com
