The UAE’s gaming enthusiasts are in for a treat this month. Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has teamed up with the region’s biggest selling monthly computing magazine, Windows Middle East, to sponsor the first ever PC gaming championship.

The Windows Gaming Championship (WGC) will be held from June 22-23 at Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates. To participate, contestants can log on to www.itp.net/wgc and register. Entry is free and open to serious as well as casual players.

Contestants can choose to enter the two-player team category playing Witchcraft III on June 22, or as an individual to play the extremely popular shooting game Quake 4 on June 23.  Keen gamers can also register for both games.

C. H Lee, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE said: “LG is proud to present the UAE’s biggest ever gaming championship. LG has a youthful and fun brand personality for millions of youth worldwide. As gaming is extremely popular among young people, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with the younger generation and strengthen our position as a technology leader.”

Up to 300 contestants are expected to battle it out for attractive cash prizes of up to  US$6000.

“WGC promises to be a great occasion for both casual and serious PC gamers and our close partnership with digital leader LG Electronics is key to its success,” explained Matthew Wade, editor of Windows Middle East. “I’m also sure that our work together on this exciting event will be followed in the future by further close collaboration.”

The gaming arena will be set up outside the Virgin Megastore in Mall of the Emirates. As headline sponsors of this event, LG will provide twelve 19-inch LX 70 series monitors that will be completely networked to computers and gaming equipment.

LG will erect five 42-inch plasma screens for weekend shoppers to enjoy the action, and also display the latest P1 notebook PC’s, equipped with Intel’s Dual Core processor.

The WGC is also an official event of the Dubai Summer Surprises. The championship is being co-sponsored by nVIDIA and AMD.
