Building on the success of its notebook PCs, global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has launched a range of notebooks with dual core processors. These notebooks offer significantly improved performance, increased battery life, better power management and extended connectivity options.
Notebooks with dual-core processors have significant performance increases that allow users to run multiple high-performance applications. The two new LG models, P1 Express Dual and M1 Express Dual, are packed with entertainment and business features ranging from enhanced graphics to better responsiveness and support for greater security options. Featuring Intel’s Core Duo Processors, the super slim and light notebooks are powered by the latest Pentium M processor with a 667MHz frontside bus, while the accompanying chipset handles up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and provides support for ExpressCard (PCI Express) options. Both the P1 Express Dual and the M1 Express Dual notebooks support all multimedia applications, from music and movies to design work and games.
“Consumers in the GCC have identified the positive impact of mobility and notebook sales are outperforming desktop PCs in the region. According to IDC reports, shipments of notebooks, in the second quarter of 2005, increased by a phenomenal 108 per cent while imports of desktops were up by 23.5 per cent.
“Notebooks make up close to 50 per cent of total PC shipments into Saudi and already outsell desktops in the UAE. This reflects the growing need for mobility among consumers and the new LG dual core processor based notebooks offer a total mobile computing solution that fulfils the demands of users at all levels and purposes,” said C H Lee, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
The P1 Express Dual notebook is equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1K, the latest in mobile graphics technology, for high performance graphics and true-to-life picture quality. The notebooks are also equipped with TurboCache technology with up to 512 MB of larger total graphics memory, 15.4-inch LCD screens, rich audio features such as Dolby Digital 5.1 CH, SRS TruSurround XT and LG’s exclusive XTS Pro technology for a riveting home entertainment experience.
For optimal graphics performance, the M1 Express Dual notebooks feature the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7 Series, the latest graphics card, and the TurboCache technology with up to 512 MB of larger total graphics memory.
“The powerful memory module not only enhances performance but also increases the overall system stability substantially. The glare-type colour-rich LCD widescreen is perfect for entertainment applications and multi-tasking is now possible with the split window option for simultaneous dual-window display. The hot swap module bay feature enables exchange between hard drives, combo drives and DVD-Dual drives even when the notebook is up and running. With the lightweight design, the Express notebooks are a powerful entertainment and work machine on the go,” said Lee.
The notebooks have inlaid numeric keypad with Direct Media Experience (DME), for instant multimedia access. Other upgraded features include next generation blue tooth, Blue Core 4, wide screen display in WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA resolutions, dual hexa band antenna, ergonomic keyboard layout, wired and wireless network profile management eliminating the need to memorise internet protocols, virtual cable tester, touch pad with scroll functions, front edge media controls and four USB 2.0 ports. Also onboard are an S-Video output, FireWire, VGA, 10/100 Ethernet and modem connections, plus a multi-format, double-layer Super Multi DVD burner.
“These features are bound to tempt a new wave of laptop buyers. Consumers have now realised that thin and light is better, that wireless is unbelievably convenient and battery life is important. At LG, we will continue to focus on improving performance, to manufacture lightweight machines with relatively long battery life,” Lee explained.
