Lebanese General Security announced Thursday the arrest of eight terror suspects, who were allegedly preparing a series of suicide attacks across Lebanon.
In a statement, General Security said it had busted a cell made up of eight Syrian nationals identified by the initials M.N., Kh.N., H.Kh., A.W., M.N., M.Sh., A.N., and R.N.
It said they belonged to "terror organizations" and were in contact with extremist groups.
The suspects confessed to being ordered to rent an apartment “to receive and accommodate a group of suicide attackers” and prepare explosive devices and belts, the statement added.
They were allegedly planning to carry out attacks against cafes and restaurants in touristic areas, as well as United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon patrols along the border with Israel.
The statement said authorities had referred the eight men to the Judiciary, adding that security forces are continuing efforts to apprehend other militants linked to these attacks.
