Lebanon called for help from countries bordering the Red Sea Thursday to find four diving enthusiasts, including a Lebanese engineer, who disappeared July 28th off the coast of Saudi Arabia near Jeddah.
Lebanese Issam Fatayergi was with Palestinian Imad Hassan al-Sheikh; Jeddah-based Egyptian surgeon Adel Abdel Salam; and Egyptian diving instructor Abdel Rauf Shaaban, the Lebanese foreign ministry said.
The four men set out Friday from the maritime center of Sarom, about 70 kilometers (44 miles) south of Jeddah, with two other companions on a boat that went about 20 kilometers from the coast.
After the four diving enthusiasts took to the water, a strong current drove the boat onto a coral reef, where it broke up.
The Saudi authorities quickly rescued the two men from the wrecked boat, but were unable to find the divers, the ministry said.
Lebanon called on its ambassadors in Cairo, Riyadh, Khartoum, Sanaa and Muscat to ask the governments of those countries to help in the search for the missing men -- BEIRUT (AFP)
