Lebanese teachers at public schools and other government-run academic institutions, will stage on April 10 a one-day warning strike, reported the Daily Star newspaper, quoting a statement as saying on Wednesday.

“The strike will start with peaceful protests at 10 a.m. in front of the Grand Serail and later at Parliament,” a statement by the Coordination Committee of Teachers and State Employees said.

“The government has yet to do anything about our primary demand to improve the social services offered to state employees,” said the statement.

“The Lebanese University has been without permanent deans for over nine months and its board of directors has been all but absent,” it added.

The statement also complained that “the government is dragging its feet about such essential demands as the back-pay of salary increases that had been granted to civil servants for years and have not yet been paid.” The group said the strike had been delayed by a month to give the government additional time to meet the demands – Albawaba.com
