Two associations of Lebanese teachers plan to hold a general strike to protest the “worsening economic, professional and health” conditions in their field.

After a meeting Sunday, the Beirut League for Public Primary and Intermediary School Teachers and the Public Secondary School Teachers League requested that teachers finalize a list of demands by Tuesday and scheduled a protest for November 13.

Joint demands included increasing the education ministry’s budget for the enlargement of classrooms and the provision of new teaching material.

A raise in teachers’ health insurance to meet “real” health costs, and an extension of their children’s scholarship benefits, were also demanded.

The groups called on the government to improve salaries and retirement packages to reflect qualifications and years of experience, the report added – Albawaba.com
