ALBAWABA - A Lebanese student was stabbed to death in Davis, California, hours after receiving an award for a research he prepared for an academy he was attending.

Kareem Abu Najm, 20, was knifed while riding his bike in a public park in the city, according to U.S. media reports.

The victim’s father, Majdi, said in a statement that his son was ambitious and proud of his ancestry being of Lebanese origin.

"We moved out of Lebanon in 2018 when the situation there started moving in the right direction," the elder Najm said. "We came here looking for safety, but who knew that my son will be killed here?"

A suspect was identified and a search was underway to locate what witnesses said was a young man between the ages of 19 and 23, with a long, curly hair. Drones are being used in the manhunt, but the authorities have so far been unable to locate him.

No information was available on the motive of the perpetrator or the research of his victim.
