A bomb planted inside a police station in the Iraqi city of Hilla on Friday killed six people, including the commander of a local special police force, police said.
According to Reuters, the explosion, which injured 12 policemen, punched a hole in the building's ceiling in central Hilla, south of Baghdad. Police Colonel Salam al-Mamoury, who headed the anti-terror Scorpion police force, was among the dead, police said.
"He was transferred to hospital after the bomb went off, but he died on the way," said Lieutenant Kadhem Shamari, according to AFP. Doctor Haidar Timimi at Hilla's main hospital confirmed the death and said eight wounded officers were receiving treatment.
