At least 14 people drowned on Sunday when two buses plunged into a canal in southern Egypt, police said as an investigation continued into the cause of the accident.
Fourteen bodies were retrieved from the Nile-fed canal near Minya, about 260 kilometers (155 miles) south of the capital Cairo, but rescuers were still looking for more bodies, the police added.
It was not immediately clear how the public transport bus and a mini bus both plunged into the canal. Nor was it known how many were aboard both vehicles.
Eight people were pulled alive from the water and transported to a nearby hospital, police added.
Road accidents are frequent in Egypt, where private minibuses are accused of overloading passengers and failing to respect speed limits in order to increase profits -- MINYA, Egypt (AFP)
