Right Angle Media, the company behind one of the largest public-private utility initiatives ever embarked on by the RTA – the Air-conditioned Bus Queue Shelter project – believes that this year’s “MEED Abu Dhabi Conference” is a platform from which Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure will get the corporate and governmental push it needs to progress onto the next level of development.

Raman Multani, the CEO of Right Angle Media says, “The conference is aimed at defining the landscape of the Abu Dhabi economy. In my opinion, the best way to do this is through public-private partnership, allowing local municipalities and local communities, to speed up and quickly benefit from infrastructural projects, without the financial burden”.

“Having key stakeholders and decision-makers from government and industry in one room to discuss, debate and resolve issues, will assist in successfully shaping the future of the UAE capital.”

The Bus Queue Shelter project, currently taking off the ground in Dubai, is one of the largest and a first-of-its-kind street furniture project in the world, worth over AED 750 million and to run for over 10 years on a DBOT (design, build, operate, transfer) basis, managed entirely by privately operated partner of RTA - Right Angle Media.

“We are in the process of installing 1000 air-conditioned bus shelters in Dubai. Our future initiatives will all be based on public-private partnerships with various transport authorities / municipalities to install, commission and operate conveniences to the populace and improve the aesthetics of the city. Structures are tailored to fit in with the look and feel of localities and compliment rather than impose on the environment.”

There are multi-facetted benefits to the bus shelter offering. Right Angle Media will be employing over 100 staff, dedicated to maintaining and keeping shelters in pristine condition at all times, making shelters appealing and comfortable for all who use them.

“Additionally, shelters will incorporate recycling drop-off points, ATM and snack vending machines, and have been designed to accommodate physically challenged members of the public.”

Mr. Multani concludes that across the globe public-private partnerships provide much needed infrastructure. The Virgin rail network, amongst many others, in the UK is an excellent example of the potential in crossing the public-private divide and thereby keeping healthy competition alive and providing much needed amenities and infrastructure.
