ALBAWABA- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the maintenance and operation of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, now fully operational.
The MoU was formalized during the visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to New Delhi.
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the agreement between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and India's Nuclear Power Corporation, emphasizing its role in bolstering cooperation on nuclear energy.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) further noted that the agreement aligns with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations. It aims to foster knowledge exchange in nuclear energy, leveraging the UAE’s advanced nuclear capabilities.
In addition, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a 15-year deal with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) to supply 1 million metric tons of LNG annually, primarily sourced from ADNOC's Ruwais Low Emission Gas Project.
The agreement is a significant step toward enhancing India’s energy security. ADNOC also renewed its Oil Storage and Management Agreement with the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited.
Moreover, Abu Dhabi Holding Company (ADQ) inked an MoU with India’s Ministry of Food Industries to establish a cutting-edge food and agricultural complex in Gujarat, utilizing the latest technologies.
These agreements come on the heels of UAE’s announcement last Thursday regarding the full commercial operation of the Barakah nuclear power plant, the first in the Arab world.
Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid's visit to New Delhi also included discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations, with a focus on advancing bilateral cooperation in energy, food security, and industrial development.
