Kyiv's skies shattered: unprecedented UAV onslaught inflicts havoc on the capital

ALBAWABA - In a significant development, the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, experienced its most substantial drone attack to date, orchestrated by the Russian military.

The assault, utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), resulted in injuries to five individuals, including a child, and inflicted damage on numerous structures. Russia's deployment of 75 UAVs in the attack caused power disruptions in approximately 200 buildings in Kyiv. Notably, the Ukrainian Air Force successfully reported the destruction of 74 of the UAVs involved in the operation.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko took to social media to disclose that this marked the most extensive UAV assault on the capital since the conflict's onset in February 2022. Among the casualties were five individuals, including an 11-year-old child. Klitschko noted that the downed drones caused damage to several buildings, including a kindergarten.

Addressing the situation, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk emphasized that Kyiv had been the primary target of the attack. Sergey Popko, the Military Administration Chief of Kiev City, described the incident as the most substantial UAV assault on the capital, lasting over six hours and resulting in power outages affecting 77 residences and 120 buildings.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that the Kyiv region witnessed 17,000 people left without electricity, with four power lines sustaining damage. The ongoing attacks by Russia on Ukraine continue to escalate, underscoring the severity of the situation.
