Crown Prince Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah is set to return to Kuwait on November 1 after two months of medical tests abroad, officials announced Sunday.
"The cabinet was informed that Sheikh Saad will return on Wednesday, after a vacation in Britain and the US where he has undergone routine medical tests, all of which have been successful," the government said in a statement.
Sheikh Saad, who is also prime minister, already underwent a battery of medical tests in London and the United States last year before returning to Kuwait.
The crown prince fell ill in July 1999 with a low blood-sugar count, and he previously had colon surgery in early 1997 and spent several months abroad recovering.
The 70-year-old prince has headed every Kuwaiti cabinet for the past 22 years, but for the past several months has delegated part of his responsibilities to his deputy, Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
He missed the opening on Saturday of a new parliamentary session at which the acting prime minister gave a lengthy speech.
Sheikh Saad is from the Al-Salem branch of the ruling Al-Sabah family, which by tradition alternates the post of head of state with the Al-Jaber branch, represented by the current emir, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah -- KUWAIT CITY (AFP)
