Kuwaitis detained since the shooting of US marines this week have confessed to being followers of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Islamist MP Khaled al-Adwa told reporters.

"The interior minister said there was a videotape that is part of the investigation in which they (detainees) confessed that they owe allegiance to bin Laden," Adwa said after a meeting between Kuwait's interior and defense ministers and parliament's interior and defense committees.

Another MP who attended the meeting told AFP that 17 suspects were in detention.

On Friday, an Interior Ministry official said the two Kuwaitis who attacked U.S. soldiers were part of a terrorist cell that planned more assaults on Americans, but no connection between them and al-Qaeda has yet been established. (Albawaba.com)
