Kuwaiti opposition lawmakers on Monday said the government has submitted its resignation amid a growing crisis over corruption accusations.
One opposition lawmaker, Khaled al-Sultan, told the AP that the Cabinet tendered the resignations hours before a major protest rally was set to start.
Earlier this month, opposition lawmakers and protesters stormed parliament to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah. At least 45 people were detained over the incident.
There is widespread speculation that the emir, Sheik Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, could reappoint Sheikh Nasser as prime minister after new elections, which must be held within 60 days.
