"Thriller" superstar Michael Jackson is in Bahrain on a private visit, his first trip abroad after being cleared of child sex abuse charges. The world-famous king of pop arrived on Wednesday "to relax," a source close to the Gulf kingdom's ruling family told AFP.

"(Jackson) wants to be away from the US press and he chose Bahrain to rest after what he went through in the past few months," the source said in reference to his high-profile trial in the US, which ended with his acquittal in mid-June.

Jackson is a friend of some "senior figures" in Bahrain and has come to "rest and relax as a guest," the source added.
