In accordance with the General Authority of Civil Aviation’s decision, based on the International Civil Aviation Organization recommendations, King Abdulaziz International Airport launched an awareness campaign to cautioning all international passengers not take liquids and gelatinous materials in containers and packaging over 100ml inside the plane cabin, either in their hand luggage or on their person.
The ban includes beverages, perfumes, men’s colognes, toothpaste, shampoo, hair gels and other toiletries. The list of prohibited materials does not include essentials such as baby milk, patients’ food and medicine. The General Authority of Civil Aviation’s ruling came into effect on December 19, 2009.
However, travelers can put the containers with materials in excessive in their check-in luggage.
Eng. Mazen Khashoggi, Director General of King Abdulaziz International Airport, confirmed the ban, stating that this step is necessary for airline and passenger safety according to King Abdulaziz International Airport commitment to maintain the highest standards in compliance with regulations issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, which in turn is compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization regulations.
King Abdulaziz International Airport can handle up to 18 million passengers a year and is expanding its capacity and capabilities, including new terminals, to
allow for continuous growth in the number of pilgrims, domestic, tourist and business travelers.
