An al-Qaeda member's Twitter account has indicated that the leader of the Khorasan group was recently killed by a U.S. aerial attack in Syria, Reuters reported Sunday, citing the SITE monitoring service.
The report said Mohsin al-Fadhli, who was born in Kuwait and went by several noms de guerre, was thought to have been killed in a Sept. 23 strike, but that in following days U.S. officials said they were unsure what had happened to him.
In 2012, a U.S. State Department notice offered a $7 million reward for Fadhli's whereabouts and described him as an al-Qaeda financier who had known in advance about the Sept. 11 attacks, Reuters said.
