Iran's President Mohammad Khatami inaugurated the 990-megawatt combined cycle power plant in the southern city of Bandar Abbas Tuesday.
Following the inauguration ceremony, Khatami visited several sectors of the power plant.
The president expressed hope that the new power plant would meet the energy needs of the province.
In the course of the ceremony, head of the Iran Power Development Organization said the newly opened plant helps the country soar its power capacity to 37,625 megawatts, <i>IRNA</i> news agency reported.
During his two-day visit, the president will inaugurate 57 projects in the fields of energy, education, culture, art, housing, agriculture, national resources, and transportation.
